Dixie Chicks went five for five at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards on Feb 11 winning the big three general categories: Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Song of the Year, as well as Best Country Album and Best Country Performance By a Duo or Group.
Introduced by the legendary Joan Baez, who referred to them as "three brave women," the Dixie Chicks performed their charged "Not Ready To Make Nice." Led by Natalie Maines, fellow Chicks Emily Robison and Martie Maguire pulled off an almost defiant performance that climaxed in the song's powerful, impassioned chorus, a statement of intent that pulled the heartstrings of the worldwide GRAMMY audience.
On the day after their Grammy sweep, VH1 has decided to re-air Dixie Chicks' Storytellers at 3pm eastern/pacific (Mon Feb 12.)
The Dixie Chicks are an American all-female country music trio comprising Emily Robison, Martie Maguire and Natalie Maines. They are the second highest-selling female group in any musical genre, behind Destiny's Child.
The group formed in 1989 in Dallas, Texas. After years of struggle and personnel changes, the Dixie Chicks achieved massive country and pop success starting in the late 1990s with hit songs such as Wide Open Spaces, Cowboy Take Me Away and Long Time Gone. By 2007, they had won 14 Grammy Awards for their recordings. The group became well-known for their lively persona, instrumental virtuosity, fashion sense, and outspoken political comments.
