HBO received 21 Primetime Emmy Awards, the most of any network, in the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards competition. The awards received by the network this year reflect the diversity of HBO's original programming, ranging from series to original movies to documentaries.

Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee topped HBO's list of winners with 6 awards, while The Sopranos, When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts and Rome each received 3 awards.

HBO's Emmy wins this year include:
  • 6 Emmys overall for Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, including Outstanding Made for Television Movie, Outstanding Makeup for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special (Non-Prosthetic), Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Miniseries or a Movie, Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Miniseries or a Movie, Outstanding Sound Editing for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special, and Outstanding Cinematography for a Miniseries or Movie.

  • 2 Emmys overall for Entourage, including Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Jeremy Piven) and Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half Hour) and Animation.
  • 1 Emmy for Extras: Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series (Ricky Gervais).
  • 1 Emmy for Deadwood: Outstanding Makeup for a Series (Non-Prosthetic).
  • 1 Emmy for The Addiction Project: Governors Award.
  • 1 Emmy for Ghosts of Abu Ghraib: Outstanding Nonfiction Special.
