"The Linguists," a critically acclaimed documentary about two scientists in search of dying languages, will be shown at the Whitney Humanities Center, 53 Wall St., on April 29, at 6 p.m.
Following the screening of the film, there will be a discussion with David Harrison, one of the linguists featured in the documentary. The screening and discussion are free and open to the general public.
"The Linguists" is the true story of Harrison and Greg Anderson, scientists who - spurred by the knowledge that half of the world's languages are on the verge of extinction - go on a world pursuit to record as many of them as possible.
Their journey takes them deep into the heart of the cultures and communities at stake. In Siberia, India and Bolivia, the linguists confront head-on the very forces silencing languages: institutionalized racism and violent economic unrest.
