Mei Mei has two cubs

Saturday at Adventure World in Wakayama, 453 km (283 miles) south-west of Tokyo, a giant panda, Mei Mei, gave birth to twins, raising the number of artificially-bred pandas born in 2006 to a record of 30.
The giant panda is one of the world's rarest animals with on estimated 1,590living
in the wild in china, mostly in Sichuan and the western province of Shaanxi.
Birth during the winter months is extremely rare for pandas in captivity. Another
180 animals have been breed in captivity.
The zoo officials said that even thaw the tow 84 grams babies were born
prematurely, are considered to be in good health.
Mei Mei,12, was born on August 31, 1994 at the Giant Panda Breeding Center in
Chengdu, China she came to Wakayama in July 2000, and her mate Ei Mei, 14, was born
on September 14, 1992 at the Beijing Zoo in China he arrived in Wakayama with You
Hin (who died in June 1997) in september 1994.
