BenQ announces that it will showcase its first Mobile Internet Device (MID) at this year's Mobile World Congress after its debut at the 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) earlier this year. This time, the focus will be on the MID's customized user interface that brings an interactive and intuitive mobile Internet experience.
The MID's distinctive user interface was meticulously designed to bring an intuitive user experience to consumers. The startup icons on the desktop flip like a vertical window blind as you glide a finger across the device's 4.8-inch touch screen. Users can simply shake their MIDs to minimize open windows as thumbnails on the desktop for more convenience and control. This reduces common errors that occur when users point to small icons on touch screens and eliminates the repetitive action of minimizing and maximizing the windows.
Embedded with Intel's Menlow platform and a powerful CPU, BenQ's MID combines the advantages and capabilities of a smartphone and a notebook into a single device. It also has a 0.3 mega pixel webcam and a 4.8-inch touch screen that is big enough for users to browse websites in its original dimensions without having to scroll the pages horizontally. With high-speed mobile Internet access, users can now email, instant message, network on Flickr or Facebook and play music or movies from Youtube in a familiar web environment similar to that on a PC.

"Creating a simple and ergonomic user interface was therefore a main focus when we were developing this MID. Coupled with Intel's powerful Menlow platform, BenQ strongly believes that this MID elevates its user's mobile Internet experience to a whole new level."
According to IDC's most recent findings, the continuous improvement of mobile broadband network technology has brought about the steady increase in demand for mobile Internet devices. In addition, ABI Research reaffirms IDC's foresight with a prediction that the number of mobile Internet devices will hit 90 million in 2012. This clearly indicates that mobile Internet devices will stimulate the next wave of mobile device demand after smartphones.
The Mobile World Congress 2008 is an event highly anticipated by the global mobile industry. It will be held in Barcelona, Spain from the 11th to 14th February. BenQ will exhibit the MID at Intel's booth in Hall 8, booth 8B109.
