Mike Lazaridis, President and Co-CEO at Research In Motion, said: "The BlackBerry 8830 World Edition is the first BlackBerry smartphone to combine CDMA and GSM connectivity and it brings those two network technologies together in RIM's thinnest handset design. When coupled with the powerful TELUS network services, the BlackBerry 8830 provides an exceptional choice for customers who want a full featured and stylish smartphone with all the power of the BlackBerry solution."
TELUS' enhanced global roaming service provides users of the BlackBerry 8830 with voice calling and an "always-on, always connected" wireless e-mail solution for access to e-mail, contacts, calendar, organizer and the Web while travelling internationally.
In North America, users get access to CDMA's superior coverage, including access to high-speed, broadband-like wireless data downloads with EVDO - Canada's fastest coast-to-coast 3G wireless network. With typical download speeds of approximately 400 to 700 kilobits per second and maximum possible speeds of more than 2 megabits per second, EVDO offers download speeds that are more than five times faster than GSM EDGE technology thereby providing clients with a superior experience throughout North America. Wireless high-speed is currently available to more than two-thirds of Canadians and throughout 242 U.S. cities. Where the wireless high-speed (EVDO) network is not available, the BlackBerry 8830 will function throughout TELUS' 1X network, which offers digital coverage to more than 94 per cent of Canadians. When outside of North America and CDMA coverage, clients using the BlackBerry 8830 smartphone can access GSM's broad worldwide coverage.
