LaCie today announced the new Little Big Disk Quadra, an amazingly fast mobile disk designed for speed-intensive and capacity-demanding applications such as digital content creation, high-volume data exchange, and video editing - all while on the road. As fast as the thoroughbred LaCie Big Disk Extreme+ desktop drive, the Little Big Disk has been designed by Neil Poulton to offer quiet operation and superior heat dissipation with an integrated fanless cooling system. Ensuring superior reliability thanks to its aluminum heat-sink design, the Little Big Disk Quadra will be available in 400GB and 500GB versions with either 7200 or 5400 RPM drives, respectively. Quadruple interface allows universal connectivity for true cross-platform compatibility.

"The LaCie Little Big Disk Quadra is the ultimate solution for Mac or Windows professionals needing convenient portable storage without having to sacrifice performance," said Olivier Mirloup, LaCie Hard Disk Business Unit Manager. "Offering as much as 50 percent more capacity than "standard" mobile drives and with blazing speed, the Little Big Disk Quadra, with its quadruple interface and clever design, continues to solidify LaCie's position as the perennial technology leader for professional storage devices."

Equipped with one eSATA 3Gbits, two FireWire 800, and one USB 2.0 port, the Little Big Disk Quadra is FireWire 400 compatible thanks to an included FireWire 800 to FireWire 400 cable. The device is bus-powered with FireWire 800 for true in-the-field mobility and is bootable with FireWire for Mac OSX or eSATA for Windows. It offers built-in RAID 0 capabilities to reach up to 110MB/s burst transfer rates when using eSATA or up to 80MB/s if using FireWire 800, while also being the quietest drive in its capacity. Weighing in at a little over 1.4 pounds, the sturdy Little Big Disk Quadra is up to 60 percent lighter than conventional desktop drives, enabling it to be a perfect portable companion for audio/video professionals looking for power and comfort.

Fully plug and play with Mac® OS X 10.5 Leopard (including Time Machine) and Windows® Vista®, the Little Big Disk Quadra comes preloaded with the LaCie Setup Assistant, a new utility that optimizes the drive according to your needs (Mac, Windows, or cross-platform environments). The unit comes bundled with advanced backup and restore software EMC Retrospect Express for Mac and Windows. It can also be daisy-chained using one of the two FireWire interfaces with other LaCie hard disks or DVD"RW drives.

Availability

The LaCie Little Big Disk Quadra is available now from LaCie direct and widely available via LaCie's specialized dealer network at the suggested retail price starting at $475.
