LaCie d2 Quadra
LaCie d2 Quadra

LaCie today unveiled the second generation of its quadruple-interface d2 Quadra with the LaCie Shortcut Button and included EMC® Retrospect® Express backup and recovery software. With the ability to choose between eSATA, FireWire 800, FireWire 400 and USB interfaces, this professional storage device was designed by Neil Poulton to offer the same sturdiness and innovative aluminum heat sink system that is also seen on the LaCie 2big and LaCie Little Big Disk. With 60 percent more surface area than a standard design, it offers more efficient heat dissipation without the need of a noisy fan. Available in capacities of 320GB to 1TB, the easy-to-use d2 Quadra is a professional solution for multiple high-performance storage applications.

"The original d2 first appeared back in 2002 and has been a popular fixture ever since. Striving to bring the most advanced technologies to our loyal customers, LaCie feels this new offering delivers a refreshing, modern yet back-compatible look, while the device's unique heat sink design prolongs long-term performance and reliability," said Olivier Mirloup, LaCie Hard Disk Business Unit Manager. "The quadruple interface d2 Quadra is highly versatile to work in any environment with its blazing eSATA 3Gbits or FireWire 800 connectivity, which is beneficial to editing SD video or manipulating RAW photographic images."

For those needing more speed or security, two or more drives can easily be connected to the host in either RAID 1 for data redundancy and protection, or striped together in RAID 0 for faster data transfers. On top of its superior performance and proven durability, the LaCie d2 Quadra is ultra-quiet thanks to its fanless heat sink cooling system, while ergonomically designed to save desktop space by standing vertically, laid horizontally to stack multiple drives, or rack-mounted. A built-in 3-position on/auto/off switch allows for customized power management.

Fully plug and play with Mac® OS X 10.5 Leopard (including Time Machine) and Windows® Vista®, the LaCie d2 Quadra features the LaCie Shortcut Button*, a blue button on the front of the drive that can be configured to launch any document or application, or initiate included EMC Retrospect Express software that enables automated backups to the device. Preloaded on the drive is the LaCie Setup Assistant, a new utility that optimizes the drive according to your needs (Mac, Windows, or cross-platform environments).

Availability

The LaCie d2 Quadra is available now from LaCie direct and widely available via LaCie's specialized dealer network at the suggested retail price starting at $189. LaCie separately offers eSATA and FireWire PCI cards and rack mounting kits.
