AACS - "Advanced Access Content System". A specification for managing content stored on the next generation of prerecorded and recorded optical media for consumer use with Personal Computers (PC)s and Consumer Electronics (CE) devices. AACS complements new innovations in the next-generation of optical discs, and enables consumers to enjoy next-generation content, including high-definition content. AACS defines content distribution and digital rights management for the purpose of restricting sharing and copying of the next generation of Digital Versatile Discs (DVD)s.
This is the system used in Blu-ray and HD DVD discs to protect content stored on disc from illegal duplication.
