Fujitsu Named Finalist for NXTcomm Eos Award

Sun, Jun 15, 2008

Fujitsu Network Communications, a leading supplier of innovative optical and wireless networking solutions, announced today that the Fujitsu BroadOne™ WX300 macrocell base station has been named as a finalist for a prestigious NXTcomm Eos Award. NXTcomm Eos Awards honor exhibiting companies that have developed the most promising new technologies or provided the best new network services, strategic support, and ongoing achievement.

"This year's Eos winners demonstrated the best and most promising advancements to the network-enabled voice, video and data ecosystem," said Wayne Crawford, NXTcomm Executive Director. "We congratulate Fujitsu for its leadership, innovation and role in driving our industry forward."

The BroadOne WX300 mobile WiMAX base station is among the smallest, most power-efficient in the industry and ideal for operators looking for a quick in-service solution with easy installation and maintenance. Fujitsu designed the base station with many features to meet the global requirements for mobile WiMAX networks. By combining world-class energy efficiency with the world's smallest base station enclosure, Fujitsu has significantly reduced the costs associated with installing and operating base stations, thereby contributing to the global deployment of mobile WiMAX infrastructure.

"Fujitsu believes that WiMAX will be an enabling technology for ubiquitous broadband wireless services across the world," said Jim Hintze, senior vice president of marketing at Fujitsu Network Communications. "We spoke with several wireless service providers during the development of our mobile WiMAX solution and their message was clear; they wanted a solution that not only delivers superior performance to other available WiMAX products, but also one that consumes less power and space. Our engineers took this as a challenge and the resulting BroadOne WX300 mobile WiMAX base station gives service providers the means to build the ubiquitous broadband wireless infrastructure that consumers have envisioned."

The BroadOne WX300 outdoor macro base station's high-output amplifier uses a gallium-nitride (GaN) High Electron Mobility Transistor (HEMT) device that was developed based on ultra-high-speed transistor technology invented by Fujitsu. This device is coupled with Fujitsu digital pre-distortion technology, which already has a proven track record in 3G systems, to create two high-output power transceivers packaged in a single unit. The adoption of advanced amplifier technology allows the base station to weigh approximately 40 pounds, allowing tower, pole or building-top installation by a single person.

With the BroadOne WX300 outdoor macro base station, Fujitsu has set a new standard in developing a cutting-edge mobile WiMAX base station that provides fully-certified mobile WiMAX macrocell functionality in a picocell package. NXTcomm 2008 attendees can see the BroadOne WX300 base station in Fujitsu booth # SU3104 from June 17-19, 2008 in Las Vegas.

NXTcomm

NXTcomm has replaced SUPERCOMM. The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) and the U.S. Telecom Association (USTelecom), the two organizations that owned and produced SUPERCOMM for 18 years, have joined forces again to produce NXTcomm, which replaces SUPERCOMM as the one event delivering the entire ecosystem of network-enabled voice, video, and data. NXTcomm08 comes to the Las Vegas Convention Center June 16-19 and will co-locate with InfoComm08, the leading audiovisual business-to-business marketplace.
