Jobster, the job search engine who raised around $48 million, from the likes of Ignition Partners, The Mayfield Fund and Trinity Ventures in venture financing, over the past two years, is undergoing an analysis of the business that could involve layoffs or other changes in the first part of 2007. Last week it was reported2 that both Blue Dot and Vizrea went through a round of layoffs.

Jobster has about 145 people employs and is one of the biggest newly created Internet companies in Seattle. This year, in September they also moved into a new headquarters located at 3131 Elliott Ave, Seattle, in order to acomodate with the growth.

Om Malik reports on Gigaom.com: "Some close to Jobster describe the situation as “fluid.” The company spokesperson officially told us that the company is seeking profitability in 2007. So far, nothing has been finalized, and the company is currently in the process of weighing its options and finalizing its plans for 2007. The company will have further details on Jan. 2, 2007, the spokesperson said."

Jobster's new chief financial officer, David Eckert, was named last week, after Ron Stevens announced his departure in October after less than a year on the job. CEO Jason Goldberg. “He has already proven to be a capable and trusted advisor and I look forward to him playing a key role on the Jobster executive team in 2007. Dave shares my commitment to building Jobster into a high-growth, highly scaleable, and cost-efficient business.”.

Jobster has plenty of competition in the job search category, including players such as Monster or other job-related vertical search engines like Simply Hired and Indeed. Jobster’s main source of revenues is selling “web-based tools to manage finding workers, which cost between $1,000 to $9,000 per month, depending on the companies’ size.”.

Jobster is a job search engine and online recruiting tool. It was founded in February 2004 by Jason Goldberg and Phillip Bogle. In addition to searching job postings from a number of different job boards, it allows jobseekers to explore user generated content and use social networking to learn about company cultures and make career matches. Jobster also provides a paid service to employers for distributing job advertisements through email, job boards, blogs, and other online channels.
