NEC Corporation of America Unveils Enhanced Point of Sale Systems Designed for Retailers of all Sizes

NEC Corporation of America, a premier provider of IT, network and retail solutions, today announced two complete point-of-sale (POS) transaction management systems designed for retailers ranging from small to large that want to lower costs and simplify the checkout experience for customers.

Unveiled at the 2008 National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) Show, the TwinPOS 5500 and TwinPOS 3500 are the next generation of NEC POS systems; offering the flexibility and reliability demanded by the retail industry. NEC’s new base POS units were designed leveraging NEC’s 40 years of experience in providing innovative solutions for some of the world’s largest retailers; and offer the high quality required for mission-critical applications running 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week.

TwinPOS 5500 Point of Sale System

NEC’s TwinPOS 5500 operates on either Microsoft® Windows® Embedded for the Point of Service (WEPOS) or Linux, and is ideally suited for retail environments, such as grocery and convenience stores, as well as quick-service environments. For enhanced functionality, customers can add a magnetic card reader and customer display unit to the NEC TwinPOS 5500. In addition, the NEC TwinPOS 5500 and TwinPOS 3500 feature enough power and memory to additionally support back office functions.

TwinPOS 3500 Point of Sale System

NEC’s TwinPOS 3500 is designed and built to deliver high durability and reliability in a rugged POS terminal and is also ideally suited for retail environments, such as grocery and convenience stores, as well as quick-service restaurants. Leveraging Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) Intel® Celeron® M processor at 600 MHz and Microsoft’s WEPOS operating system, TwinPOS 3500 delivers renowned NEC reliability and dependability in a more compact solution. TwinPOS 3500 features a 2.5 GB flash storage with zero spindle architecture to minimize hardware failure. Like the TwinPOS 5500, the NEC TwinPOS 3500 also offers customers the option to add on both the magnetic card reader and customer display unit.

Additional features of both the NEC Twin5500 and Twin3500 include:
