Yahoo! Web Messenger
Yahoo! Inc today launched a new version that of Instant Messenger works inside a Web browser rather than requiring users to download a separate piece of software. The Web-based Yahoo! Instant Messenger, it's the first brand-new Messenger in over six years.
And according to Yodel Blog, it will be supported by a large number of Platforms: "We went out of our way to support all the browsers — IE, Firefox, Netscape, Safari, and Opera (because we have a soft spot for Norwegians). I think this just might be the fastest, most refined Web IM app out there. And through our interoperability agreement with Windows Live Messenger, Web messaging users are able to connect with the largest community of IM users - 350 million user accounts!"
The new service introduced by Yahoo rivals with Google and AOL. Yahoo also launched a dedicated site for Yahoo chat at
webmessenger.yahoo.com. or simply
http://web.im.
Yahoo senior vice president of communications Brad Garlinghouse said,"This really has great implications for the road warriors out there who are on the go. People have become quite accustomed to a non-stop accessible life."
"The internet is evolving from a static experience where a web page is just a web page to where Web pages behave more like traditional desktop computer applications," Garlinghouse added.
