Microsoft will release eight patches Tuesday

Fri, Jan 05, 2007
Microsoft Technet Microsoft announced today that it will release eight security patches for vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows, Office and Visual Studio next Tuesday.

"As part of the monthly security bulletin release cycle, Microsoft provides advance notification to our customers on the number of new security updates being released, the products affected, the aggregate maximum severity and information about detection tools relevant to the update. This is intended to help our customers plan for the deployment of these security updates more effectively." - Microsoft

Among the eight fixes, three of them will fix flaws in Office, rated by Microsoft as "critical." It is likely that these will address vulnerabilities found in Word just before last month's patch release, for which Microsoft has yet to release patches.

Here is a rundown of the patches:

  * Three bulletins will pertain to Windows with the highest Maximum Severity rating being Critical
  * One bulletin will pertain to Windows and Visual Studio. It has a Maximum Severity rating of Important
  * One bulletin will pertain to Windows and Office. It also has a Maximum Severity rating of Important
  * The final three bulletins will pertain to Office with the highest Maximum Severity rating being Critical
  * An update to the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool will also be released
