  • Dacia has extended its catalogue of vehicles capable of running on alternative fuels. Following the introduction of the highly successful Dacia Logan and Dacia Sandero 1.4 MPI 75 LPG, the brand is to release an E85 superethanol-compatible version of the celebrated Dacia Logan MCV estate in France.
  • Dacia Logan MCV 1.6 16v 105 Bioethanol replaces the former 1.6 MPI 90 version, with tax-paid prices (in France) starting from €11,200:
  • Order books are already open at dealerships.
  • Dacia Logan MCV 1.6 16v 105 Bioethanol benefits from attractive tax incentives, since its CO2 emissions are reduced by 40 per cent when calculating where the vehicle stands in terms of the eco-bonus/surcharge scheme operating in France. This reduction ensures 'neutral' status under this scheme. Meanwhile, the vehicle's logbook is either free of charge or half-price in many of the country's administrative departments.

Dacia Logan MCV 1.6 16v 105 Bioethanol which qualifies for the Dacia eco2 signature joins Dacia's line-up of economical, environmentally-respectful vehicles alongside Dacia Sandero dCi 70 and dCi 85 (120g of CO2/km), Dacia Sandero and Dacia Logan 1.2 16v (139g of CO2/km) and Dacia Sandero and Logan 1.4 MPI 75 LPG (135g of CO2/km).

Bioethanol fuel emits up to 40 per cent fewer CO2 emissions (average value on all European ethanol sources, from "field-to-wheel") compared with a car running on pure petrol. According to its report published on 9 October 2009 (Analyses de Cycle de Vie appliquées aux biocarburants de première génération consommés en France), the ADEME confirms the environmental and energetic assets of the Bioethanol fuel. Indeed the Bioethanol fuel is a more ecological solution than petrol since it offers a reduction ranging from 57% per cent (wheat-sourced ethanol) to 73% (beetroot-sourced ethanol) with regard to field-to-wheel of CO2 emissions (i.e. from the production phase, including plant growth, and transport or distribution to end use) compared with the use of pure petrol. A figure which goes beyond the 50% reduction of C02 emissions requested by the European regulations by 2017. Dacia Logan MCV 1.6 16v 105 emits 178g CO2/km. From "field-to-wheel", the emissions of this Dacia Logan MCV version are 116g CO2/km.

Dacia Logan MCV 1.6 16V 105 Bioethanol is economical both to purchase and run. The pump price of E85 superethanol currently stands at the very competitive average price of €0.89/litre in France. Also, since E85 superethanol contains up to 85 per cent ethanol, its price is less subject to fluctuations in the cost of crude oil and petrol.

1.6 16V 105 BIOETHANOL ENGINE: RELIABLE, FLEXIBLE AND ENHANCED PERFORMANCE

The 1.6 16v 105 Bioethanol engine is robust and reliable. It is equipped with specific components that permit its use with E85 superethanol fuel, including high temperature-resistant sodium-filled valves, optimised cylinder-head cooling and oil-jet cooled pistons. In addition, the materials employed for the fuel tank, fuel system and fuel pump have been upgraded to counter the risk of corrosion. It is worth recalling that the Renault group has manufactured and sold Flex-Fuel engines to run on E100 ethanol in Brazil since 2004.

The 1.6 16v 105 E85 engine is flexible, since its runs equally as well on E85 superethanol as it does on unleaded petrol like SP95, SP95-E10 or SP98.

This engine also enhances the performance of Dacia Logan MCV compared with versions powered by the petrol 1.6 MPI 90 engine. The1.6 16V 105 E85 engine boasts maximum power of 77kW (105hp) at 5,750rpm, and peak torque of 148Nm at 3,750rpm, enabling Dacia Logan MCV 1.6 16V 105 Bioethanol to accelerate from standstill to 100kph in 11.8 seconds for a top speed of 174kph. Estates capable of matching these performance figures are rare in Dacia Logan MCV's price bracket. That said, it is especially for the response and driving pleasure it delivers that the 1.6 16V engine will notably appeal to Dacia Logan MCV customers. With 90 per cent of peak torque available from as low as 2,000rpm, it is both feisty and enjoyable to drive, while acceleration is particularly smooth with no flat spots, even at either low- or mid-engine speeds. Fuel consumption has not suffered either, since this 16-valve version of the 1.6-litre engine claims combined-cycle fuel consumption of just 7.5 litres/100km (running on pure petrol). The 1.6 16V 105 Bioethanol engine drives through a JR-type five-speed gearbox.

Dacia Logan MCV 1.6 16v 105 Bioethanol comes with a three-year or 100,000km warranty.
