BT combats card fraud

Wed, Apr 09, 2008

BT today announced that it is launching the new BT Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance service to ensure businesses have a robust system in place to comply with the latest card payment industry standards for protecting against card fraud and other security breaches. With UK and European compliance deadlines on the horizon, the offering further strengthens BT's reputation as an expert in security and as a trusted supplier in the payments arena.

BT is certified by the PCI Security Standards Council as a Qualified Security Assessor (QSA) and an Approved Scanning Vendor (ASV) for PCI Data Security Standard services. This enables it to offer compliance assessments, training, managed security monitoring, consultancy and compliant technology solutions. The two core offerings of the new solution combine an on-site assessment to verify compliance and security scanning service designed to test for weaknesses and vulnerabilities.

This latest offering enhances BT's global reach as an expert in assessing security and resilience. BT's standards-based security assessment methodology has been endorsed by the US National Security Agency which awarded BT INS the highest ever rating. Many aspects of this highly rated methodology have been incorporated into the delivery of assessments for PCI compliance.

Ray Stanton, global head of business continuity, security & governance practice, BT Global Services, comments: "PCI DSS compliance is a critical business issue for any organisation accepting business by card, and equally for card issuers and payment services providers. BT has an exceptional reputation and global expertise in delivering secure business systems and our new PCI DSS offering can help customers protect their brand and reduce the risk of penalties due to being caught out by unscrupulous and professional criminals."

BT is already a prevalent supplier of PCI compliant technology solutions for retailers and other businesses.
