To help its customers be energy
misers, the producer of Goodyear Engineered Products has become a U.S. EPA
Energy Star Partner.
Energy-efficiency initiatives can be cost effective, according to Jim
Hill, general manager-North America for Veyance Technologies, the exclusive
manufacturer and marketer of Goodyear Engineered Products.
"Energy savings can improve a company's financial performance," said
Hill, "so we develop technologically-advanced products designed to reduce
energy consumption."
Energy Star, a joint program of the U.S. EPA and Department of Energy,
helps protect the environment through business partners. Veyance has
pledged to offer energy-saving products and guidance to its distributors
and industrial buyers making equipment and maintenance program purchase
decisions.
"Timing is perfect," said Hill. "We've joined the program as energy
management is becoming more critical to industrial manufacturers."
According to a recent U.S. EPA study, Americans' awareness level of
Energy Star has reached more than 70 percent in 2008, a 40 percent increase
in five years. Primarily associated with home appliances, the familiar blue
Energy Star symbol is now linked with several Goodyear-branded industrial
products.
Goodyear Eagle Pd, Falcon Pd and Hawk Pd synchronous belts and pulleys
can achieve up to a 98 percent power transfer by avoiding slippage and
pulley-sidewall friction. Goodyear Maximizer software helps installers
select energy-efficient belts; Goodyear TensionRite belt frequency meters
use light optics rather than sound to achieve optimum tension. "Belt
tension is critical for power-transfer efficiency," said Hill.
A new Goodyear EasyRider conveyor belt cover reduces energy loss at
idler contact points. It recovers its shape more quickly than conventional
covers, reducing energy consumption and lowering operating costs up to 12
percent.
Additionally, Goodyear Flexsteel steam hose with special couplings and
the company's crimped steam hose program can provide energy-efficient steam
assemblies. One coupling leak of 2.6 pounds of steam per minute at $11 per
1,000 pounds can add up to $6,000 lost in a winter season, explained Hill.
"Energy management saves money on utility bills and avoids greenhouse
gas emissions," said Hill. "Seeing the signature Energy Star logo signals
that the manufacturer and its products can deliver the savings."
Veyance Technologies manufactures and markets Goodyear-branded
industrial and automotive products including conveyor belts, hose,
hydraulics, power transmission belts, rubber track and air springs, as well
as tensioners, sprockets, fittings and couplings.
