MasterCard Worldwide today announced the promotion of Michael Manchisi to chief technology officer.

Manchisi succeeds Rob Reeg, who recently was appointed president of MasterCard Global Technology & Operations (GTO) after serving as interim president since January 2008.

In his new role, Manchisi is responsible for leading the company in the areas of computer infrastructure and operations, network engineering, customer support, processing solutions and service definition and customer technology relationship management.

From its headquarters in O'Fallon, Mo., MasterCard GTO manages its operations in 210 countries and territories, including major processing centers in Brussels, Sydney and Chennai. For 25,000 financial institutions, the MasterCard network in 2007 processed 18.7 billion transactions with a gross dollar volume of $2.3 trillion. The MasterCard network has the capacity to handle 140 million transactions per hour with a response time of 140 milliseconds and 99.999 percent network availability.

"Mike Manchisi is a MasterCard veteran. He has extensive knowledge of the financial services and payments industry as well as an understanding of the critical importance of technology in driving our business. In his 21 years at MasterCard, Mike has accumulated experience and perspective that is invaluable as, through his role as CTO, he helps MasterCard continue to grow its leadership in payment processing and innovation," Reeg said.

Manchisi most recently was group executive, MasterCard Strategic Account Management, overseeing GTO partnerships with MasterCard customers and internal business partners in order to maximize the value of GTO capabilities. He has held senior leadership positions in MasterCard corporate and regional finance, customer service, and computer and network services.

Manchisi is a member of the board of directors of the Sheldon Arts Foundation in St. Louis and is a member of its program and marketing committee. He serves on the finance committee of the Family Resource Center, which provides services related to child abuse and neglect in the greater St. Louis area.
