MyPublisher, the leading internet
provider of Photo Books and design software for digital photographers,
today announced that it had raised $8.9 million to fund its rapid growth.
The round was led by Mousse Partners, whose Chairman, Charles Heilbronn,
has been a member of the MyPublisher Board of Directors for over two years.
Other members of the board of directors who participated in the round were:
Jerome York, current board member of Apple, Inc and Tyco International, and
Ward W. Woods, former President and CEO of Bessemer Securities. Original
investors and board members -- Novestra, W. Thorpe McKenzie, W.B. Avery,
and founder Carl Navarre -- also participated fully.
Charles Heilbronn of Mousse Partners states, "We have been very
impressed with the growth of this company and how it has established a
leadership position in this rapidly expanding category."
Carl Navarre, MyPublisher founder and CEO asserted, "We are very
pleased by this sign of support from our board. We believe there is a
considerable market opportunity in our category, and this funding will
enable us to expand all aspects of our business and to meet the growing
demand for our products and services."
MyPublisher invented the custom-made Photo Book. Founded in 1994 by
former Atlantic Monthly Press CEO Carl Navarre, it was the first company to
offer affordable, custom-made books to the public. During the 1990s it
distributed its Photo Book services through retail giants like Wal-Mart,
K-Mart and CVS. In early 2000 it phased out its offline distribution and
switched to internet-based retail distribution. From 2002 to 2006 it was
the exclusive partner and supplier of Photo Books for Apple Computer and
Adobe. In 2006, it phased out all its private label OEM partnerships and
focused on distribution of its own MyPublisher branded products.
Its popular software program, BookMaker(TM), has been downloaded over 2
million times. Since 2005, MyPublisher has printed over 120 million photos
for consumers.
