
Nissan Motor Company, plans to invest around 100 bln yen($840 mil) to construct auto factories in India, the Nikkei business daily reported Monday.
Nissan considers two or three coastal cities in the west and south of the country as possible locations, and a decision could come as early as this month.
The construction on a main assembly plant will begin this year, the newspaper said, adding that Nissan expects to launch operations in the latter half of 2009 with annual output capacity of around 200,000 units.
Sources in the India's government that interacted with the Nissan group said the auto major was looking for producing a compact car of around 1,000 cc. Simultaneously, Nissan announced its decision to dissolve its so-called partnership with Suzuki for setting up its independent operations in India.
