UPS Restoring Service Throughout Ike Impact Area

Tue, Sep 16, 2008

UPS today said it had restored package delivery service on a limited basis to most geographic areas touched by Hurricane Ike.

The company successfully executed its contingency plans and no facilities or delivery vehicles suffered any substantial damage from the storm.

Although there are several dozen ZIP codes that remain closed, every UPS facility in the hurricane impact area went back on line Monday and is providing limited service. Attempts are being made to deliver both premium air as well as ground packages where allowed by local authorities.

Some delays should be expected due to business closings and damage to roads and other transportation infrastructure. But as the clean-up and repairs accelerate, UPS anticipates moving back to normal operations by the end of the week or beginning of next week. For now, the company recommends shippers contact any recipients in Texas or Louisiana to make sure they're available for deliveries.

UPS (NYSE: UPS) is the world's largest package delivery company and a global leader in supply chain and freight services. With more than a century of experience in transportation and logistics, UPS is a leading global trade expert equipped with a broad portfolio of solutions. Headquartered in Atlanta, Ga., UPS serves more than 200 countries and territories worldwide.
