Venice - Ponte della Accademia
At the beginning, there were only seven wonders of the world which belonged to the Ancient World. Now lists are more complex because they include those for the Medieval World and the Modern World. Furthermore, the classification of the Modern Wonders includes 25 nominalizations. Among them is Venice, the lagoon-city and the Michelangelo's masterpiece, The Sixtin Chapel from Basilica San Pietro.
In the recently top there are both places with famous monuments and some natural wonders like Grant Canyon, Perito Moreno Glacier.
The list of the seven Wonders of the Modern World (The Empire State Building, Itaipu Dam, CN Tower, Channel Town, Delta Works, Panama Canal, The Golden Gate Bridge) has enriched with others 18 nominalizations. The Great Pyramid of Giza was the only one mentioned in the Wonders of the Ancient World, a classification made by a well known tourism magazine called "Rough Guides". Instead, Venice and Sixtin Chapel were classified as modern wonders in world premiere.
What it is great is that several wonders of nature were also included in this list (The Grant Canyon from Arizona, Victoria Waterfall, Perito Moreno Glacier from Patagonia), or unique tourist experiences. As an example is mentioned the crossing of desert Sahara riding a camel or the Amazon River's descending. There were also mentioned some hotel-casinos from Las Vegas near Great Wall of China, a striking contrast for those who dispute the so called kitsch. Another choice which instigated controversies was the Sagrada Familia, a church from Barcelona built by the famous architect Antonio Gaudi who was considered mad. Famous structures are also included in the list of the Modern Wonders of the World like Taj Mahal (India) or temples from Angkor (Cambodgia), the Salar Lake from Bolivia, the Ayers Rock from Australia.
