A powerful explosion caused by a car bomb caused extensive damage in a parking garage in Madrid in front of Terminal 4 of Spain's busiest airport.
Reuters news agency said the blast injured four people and reported it had been claimed by Basque separatist group ETA, which earlier this year declared a cease-fire in its violent struggle for independence.
The phone call was made in Spain's Basque country, according to a spokesman for the emergency road service in the Basque country (DYA), which is often used by the armed Basque separatist group ETA to warn of an imminent attack.
Police received the warning at 8:15 a.m., telling them the bomb would detonate in 45 minutes, the official said.
Terminal 4 of the airport and the multistorey had been evacuated after the telephone warning.
Barajas airport is Spain's busiest, handling more than 40 million passengers a year, according to the airport's official Web site.
