Hrant Dink, the 53-year-old Turkish-Armenian journalist of the weekly Agos newspaper, was shot and killed Friday as he left his Istanbul newspaper building.
The editor attracted controversy by speaking against the killings of Armenians by the Ottoman Empire early in the 20th century, CNN reported. Dink was accused of being a traitor and of "insulting" the Turkish state in his writings.
"This murder was committed against unity, peace, fraternity and efforts of democracy in Turkey," said Justice Minister Cemil Cicek on Friday.
Eckart Cuntz, German Ambassador to Ankara strongly condemned the assassination on Friday of Hrant Dink. He expressed his hope that Turkish officials would soon capture the murderer.
"This is a grave attack to peace, freedom and fraternal social life in Turkey" said Turkey's Sabanci Holding Chairwoman Guler Sabanci.
Ogun Samast, 17, a possible drug addict, was caught on a bus in the Black Sea city of Samsun, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said. He was apparently traveling from Istanbul back to his hometown of Trabzon, Istanbul Gov. Muammer Guler said.
The boy confessed to the killing, a prosecutor said.
