Chinese President Hu Jintao was unhappy about the complaints and international media coverage of the crackdown. Ten of thousand of concerned animal lovers around the world and across China sent their letters and concern about the national anti-dog crackdown.
Animal lovers were outraged by the methods used by the police in Beijing and
other Chinese cities. They entered the homes of dog owners and confiscated the dogs that
were either unlicensed or over 35 centimeters (13 inches) tall.
The crackdown has started in Beijing at the end of October. 318 lives were taken
by the rabies just in September and that?s why the officials have to fight with it in some
whey.
Some reports said that some dogs were beaten to death in front of their owners.
60,000 signatures of the animal lovers from across China created the pressure for
the police to stop the crackdown. The animal welfare groups say that authorities should
regulate the behavior of the people, not dogs.
During the crackdown the bureau found more than 29.00 unregistered dogs and
1,698 households that have more than one dog and closed 77 illegal dog breeding
locations.
The Municipal Agriculture Bureau will provide free rabies vaccine for registered
dogs. Earlier this month, Beijing Health authorities sad they have designated another 100
animal husbandry and vegetarian centers as animal anti-rabies inoculation points.
