A male student was shot and wounded Wednesday morning at a
Foss High School in Tacoma, Washington police were searching for a gunman, a school district spokeswoman said.
"Two young people involved. Assuming one young person brought a weapon to school and wounded another," Holmgren told CNN.
Cameron, a 10th grade student from
Foss High School said: " A friend of mine came running into the classroom saying someone had been shot and there was blood on the lockers."
The school's 1,700 students in grades 9-12 were to be sent home once police had determined there was no threat near the high school.
The victim died of his wounds, said police Spokesman Mark Fulghum, but he did not know what may have prompted the shooting.
School spokeswoman Pam Thompson said police told the school district that the students are safe and they have a "strong" suspect who is believed to have run from the campus. She said a male student was wounded in the shooting. The age of the victim was not immediately released.
Police spokesman Mark Fulghum told CNN: "We have some information about him; we're out looking for him."
