Stardust Resort & Casino Demolished
The original Stardust resort was conceived and built by Tony Cornero, though he died in 1955 before construction was completed (July 2, 1958). When the hotel opened, it had the largest casino in Nevada, the largest swimming pool in Nevada and the largest hotel in the Las Vegas area.
It was imploded on March 13, 2007, around 2:30 A.M. Later this year, construction will begin on Echelon Place, which will replace The Stardust

Boyd Gaming has announced plans to close, implode and replace it's famed Stardust resort with a 5,280 room, 87 acre, $4 billion, mixed use resort.
The project's 5,280 rooms will be divided into five buildings (although only four are shown in the rendering); the main 2600 room Echelon Place Hotel, the 700 room Echelon Place suites tower, the 400 room Shangri-La Hotel, and the 1000 room Mondrian Hotel and the 600 room Delano Hotel. Several acres of Boyd's 87 acres will remain empty for a possible future residence tower. Each hotel will have it's own spa.
All four hotels will share:
- 140,000 sq. ft casino (the third largest in Las Vegas)
- 350,000 sq. ft. shopping venue
- 750,000 sq. ft. convention center (the fourth largest in Vegas)
- 30 restaurants and bars
- 4,000 seat stadium-style theater (for resident production shows)
- 1,500 seat theater (for touring acts)
